In October 2008, a St. Louis, Missouri man charged with Clean Air Act violations for illegal asbestos removal, as well as bank fraud charges involving the asbestos removal project, plead guilty to all charges. The man was also charged with failure to notify the EPA at least 10 days before asbestos removal at the building and negligently causing asbestos to be released into the air.
The man, a principal in a real estate appraisal firm, faces a maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the asbestos violations. The bank fraud charges could result in a maximum 30 year prison sentence and a $1 million fine.
