Did asbestos tile installation work cause mesothelioma cancer?

Tile installation workers: Get a free review of your asbestos case via the form below.

In recent news about the dangers of asbestos, a man who developed lung cancer after being exposed to asbestos during tile installation jobs, is now seeking justice with a lawsuit.

The 70-year-old laborer alleges he was exposed to asbestos in 1976, when he was employed by a company to do installation work on suspended ceilings; he also fitted tiles made of asbestos.

He claims it was in that work the asbestos fibers became lodged into his lungs, thus ultimately causing his asbestosis and lung cancer.

His asbestos attorney is now hoping his former work colleagues will come forward and confirm details of his case.

Unfortunately, it takes many years after exposure to asbestos before any related disease becomes apparent, which can make finding witnesses and information about the employer and manufacturer of asbestos products very difficult.

Many laborers involved in tile installation build long-lasting, water-proof surfaces for use in such areas as kitchens, bathrooms, and patios. Unfortunately, asbestos, which we now know is very dangerous, has been used to make tiles due to its fire- and heat-resistant properties.

Those in tile installation have also worked with other materials that may have contained asbestos. They include the paper-like backings, mastics, adhesives or glues used in laying tiles.

Acoustic ceiling tiles often used in schools and other commercial locations, also contained asbestos.

Tile setters have been exposed to the dangerous carcinogen as they cut, saw, or sand tiles and accompanying materials so that everything fits properly.

In doing so, they released asbestos fibers into the air and inhaled them.

Many of these workers did not use protective masks as their employers failed to warn them about the danger asbestos poses to people's health.

Many people in tile installation have come forward decades later to say they were diagnosed with asbestos-related diseases and disorders such as asbestosis, lung cancer or mesothelioma.
