ASBESTOS TESTING
Health care services for military veterans at the VA Regional Office in Manchester, NH

Contact information for military veterans to test for exposure to asbestos: Manchester Regional Office, Norris Cotton Federal Bldg., 275 Chestnut St., Manchester, NH 03101. Phone: (800) 827-1000.

Learn more about the dangers of asbestos exposure and decide if you should be tested. The following is a list of individuals at heightened threat of developing an asbestos-related disease:

  • Anyone with breathing problems
  • Those with protracted exposure to asbestos
  • Anyone who thinks they have had ongoing exposure to asbestos
  • Immediate family members of anyone who has worked in asbestos-related trades, even if the person who worked with asbestos has no noticeable symptoms or irregular breathing patterns.

Certain illnesses are associated with asbestos exposure: Mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), lung cancer, and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). The warning signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, the tangible signs of asbestos exposure can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.

It is important to seek a medical opinion if you believe that you have been exposed to asbestos. The usual mode of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Extra tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. Physicians may speak a language that is baffling to the average person. Don't fear asking your doctor about your health problem. If you don't fully understand your doctor, request that he break it down so can better know your condition.

All those who have participated in the U.S. Armed Forces should receive the services they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for life-threatening diseases that are caused by exposure to asbestos, such as lung cancer.

Being exposed to asbestos can negatively impact your health. Weitz & Luxenberg understands this and can provide assistance. For a free consultation, fill out the form below.
