Planned Demolition in Waterford, CT to Include Asbestos Abatement
In March 2009, the CT Department of Public Works announced plans to remove asbestos and demolish a number of buildings located on the former Seaside Regional Center property in Waterford. While some of the buildings on the 36-acre property are listed on the National Registry of Historical Buildings, none of the buildings scheduled to demolished are on that list.
The department has already hired an environmental consultant to oversee the removal of asbestos from the buildings and an asbestos survey has also been completed. Asbestos remediation is scheduled to begin in April 2009.
After the remediation project is complete, bids will be solicited for the demolition project.
Exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer and asbestosis.
