Asbestos Removal Project at WVU Dorm Building
In May 2009, the University of West Virginia (WVU) announced that asbestos removal would take place as part of the renovation of the Summit Hall Dorm facility.
WVU reported that the building had been closed and that asbestos remediation was scheduled to begin the last week of May. The asbestos removal was expected to be completed within two weeks.
Other renovations to the facility will include adding a new kitchen, dining room and fitness center. A new apartment for the dorm’s resident faculty leader will also be added.
Exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious illnesses such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer or asbestosis.
