Asbestos Removal Work at Yonkers, NY Middle School

On February 27, 2009, a Yonkers, NY middle school was closed after asbestos was found during repairs of a water leak.

The leak, which occurred the prior weekend, caused damage to the floors in eight classrooms and a hallway. Concerns were expressed that the floor tiles, which had been damaged by the leak, contained asbestos.

The school district ordered air quality tests to confirm the school would be safe, and was expected to reopen the following week.
