Quakertown Directors to close school for renovation in which asbestos may be discovered
In a 8-1 vote Thursday, the Quakertown Community School District Board of Directors decided to close the building during renovation that may reveal asbestos, rather than try to continue classes during construction.
The lone no vote came from Director George Dager, who early in the meeting said he would have no choice but to cast a dissenting vote if district administrators could not guarantee that students in Grades 2 to 5 be kept together.
In response to Dager, District Superintendent Lisa Andrejko said, ''I can't guarantee Grades 2 to 5. We don't have a site to house a whole school Â… but we'll look. We'll explore it.''
