Workers spread asbestos dust by turning on air conditioning
Workers hired to do the renovation hit asbestos-laden materials, and then an employee unknowingly turned on the air-conditioning system, spreading the hazardous dust throughout the building and through offices downstairs, including the office of the local Air Pollution Control District.
"He [building official Waller] deserved to be fired for the whole thing," said Donna Koplen, who with her husband, Jake, owns the general contracting firm hired to do the work. "We weren't told there was asbestos in there."
