Chemical plant worker to start support group for those with asbestos diseases
A man who was exposed to asbestos throughout his life through working at a chemical plant, is setting up a support group for people with mesothelioma, asbestosis and asbestos-related lung cancer, said the Grimsby Telegraph on June 14, 2008.
He predicts the number of people diagnosed with asbestosis will rise
dramatically in the coming years, due to the detectable levels of asbestos present in occupational
environments in the 60s and 70s.
The man pointed out the long latency
period of developing an asbestos
disease--that while many people who worked with asbestos, like him, will
have it in their lungs, it does not mean they will receive a diagnosis of
asbestosis or mesothelioma.
According to Cancer Research UK's experts,
nearly 200,000 people in the UK could still get asbestos-related cancers from
exposure in the 60s and 70s.
From shipfitters, pipefitters and demolition workers, to those toiling
on railroads and in construction, Weitz & Luxenberg has many clients whose
needless and entirely avoidable exposure to asbestos ultimately led to them
developing asbestos-related diseases.
Weitz & Luxenberg is a leading plaintiffs' law firm that has represented
people affected by mesothelioma for over 20

asbestos exposure may be entitled to compensation from the companies
responsible for their disease.
