Council awards $27,000 asbestos removal contract for a building

City lawmakers awarded contracts to remove asbestos from a dilapidated apartment complex the city purchased.

The council awarded a $27,000 contract to Enviro Tech Remediation Services Inc., of Blaine, Minn., to remove asbestos from inside the apartment building at 1302-1312 Douglas St. The same firm will be paid $22,000 to remove asbestos from the outside. The bids came in 11 percent under city staff's estimate.
