Building to undergo renovation under asbestos removal contract and then demolished

A building bought by the city will undergo renovation under an asbestos contract and will then be demolished.

Once the asbestos is removed, the building will be demolished and sold to a developer. "This is just part of the rejuvenation of this particular neighborhood. We have been out there with rental rehabilitation and homeowner rehabilitation," she said of federal community block grant dollars that have helped pay for those projects in urban renewal areas.

Mayor Mike Hobart said, "I've heard a lot of people complain about this site. It's not been explained well enough how we will recoup our costs. They don't want to see this continue throughout the city."
