Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Exposed to Asbestos on Scientology Cruise

As reported in May 2008 by U.K.’s OK! Magazine, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were part of a group of partygoers, including fellow Scientologists John Travolta, on a cruise ship owned by the organization.

Unfortunately, Cruise, Holmes, Travolta and the other partygoers did not know that the ship is reportedly contaminated with blue asbestos. Blue asbestos, which is known by its mineral name of crocidolite, is mined in southern Africa and Australia.

While cruise guests or crew are at no immediate risk of illness, studies have proven that even a one time exposure to this deadly mineral can cause illnesses such as mesothelioma, lung cancer or asbestosis.
