Asbestos dumping decree between Maine and company only allows for mastic asbestos in soil
A consent decree between Maine and a company permits only mastic asbestos to be included in soil for dumping.
Selectman Sinden said that the board pressed the matter with the DEP staff. "If the soil contains asbestos in some other form than in the mastic, then it does not meet the specifications and should be removed. I'll let you know what I find out in the analysis," said DEP staffer Eric Hamlin in reply.
"We reminded him (Hamlin) in January and we're still awaiting the analysis," Sinden said. Eliot's new code enforcement officer is also following the matter very closely, he said.
