Refinery Worker Sues Dupont for Mesothelioma. Get an asbestos legal review of your case.
A woman in Nederland, Texas, has opted to sue DuPont and several asbestos
manufacturers because she has developed mesothelioma from washing her husband's
asbestos-contaminated work clothes for many years, according to Reliable
Plant magazine on March 3, 2008.
The woman's husband was a refinery
worker at the Beaumont DuPont facility between 1957 and 1985, the article says.
She washed her husband's dusty work clothes, not knowing that they were covered
with asbestos fibers.
Now, years later, she is suffering from pleural
mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer related to asbestos that attacks the lining
of the lungs.
According to the report, the woman has sued the asbestos
manufacturers that provided products to the DuPont facility and exposed her
husband to asbestos. She says those facilities failed to provide proper warnings
on how dangerous it is to those who come in direct contact with it, and also to
those who are exposed second-hand, as she was.
She also has sued her
husband's employer, DuPont, because DuPont knew or should have known of the
danger of asbestos exposure as well. It has been widely written about in
industry information since the 1930s that asbestos is a dangerous industrial
toxin.
