Information about lung cancer therapy and asbestos diseases

July, 2008 -- Patients have been recruited for a clinical trial to test a new type of targeted radiation and chemotherapy on patients suffering from pleural mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is a deadly cancer of the lung's lining that is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos.

Currently, the traditional treatment is to surgically remove the affected lung. Standard surgical and chemotherapy treatments of patients diagnosed with malignant pleural mesothelioma are unfortunately incomplete and largely ineffective in even prolonging survival.
