Jury selection has begun in a case against two men charged with illegally removing asbestos from an old theater building in Massachusetts, reported the Worcester Telegram & Gazette on July 1, 2008.
The men are charged with causing asbestos to be released into the air and removing asbestos without notifying the
proper authorities or complying with vital safety procedure.
According
to the article, someone placed an anonymous complaint and cited a possible asbestos hazard at the theater building,
which is now home to a restaurant and down the road from a senior citizen
residence.
Reportedly, an inspector had initially noticed that asbestos insulation on heat pipes in the building was in poor
condition and needed to be removed.
A few months later, the inspector
returned to the building and noticed that the dangerous asbestos insulation
hadn't been remedied.
However, previously, the two men involved in this
suit had said they had completed the job.
