Illegal Asbestos Removal in Cayuga County, New York May Yield Lawsuit
All too often, the failure to follow proper safety procedures in asbestos
abatement and removal results in a dangerous and unnecessary risk to exposing
the public to the carcinogen.
A recent item in the news highlights this
wanton disregard for respecting the regulations involving the proper handling of
asbestos.
As reported in the Post-Standard of Syracuse, New York,
in Cayuga County, a possible lawsuit may be brought against a man admitted to
dumping asbestos from the Board of Elections building at the city landfill in
February 2006.
Suspended county carpenter John Chick admitted he
illegally removed the material from the Court Street building but said he was
following orders from higher-ups. His sentence for violating the federal Clean
Air Act is pending.
Chick faces a possible prison sentence and fines,
according to the Post-Standard.
