Work at Plant Stopped Temporarily Over Asbestos Exposure

Some Workers Concerned About Possible Exposure When Fireproof Insulation Barrier Was Broken

Work on new pollution controls at a generating plant in Charles County was halted because asbestos might have been disturbed in the construction area, according to the Washington Post on March 23, 2008.

Federal occupational safety standards set the limit for exposure over an eight-hour work shift at 0.1 fiber per cubic centimeter of air. Exposure to asbestos has been linked to lung damage and disease.

The plant is reviewing whether proper procedures were followed, a statement said.

However, many of the contracted workers who have been working at the plant said they wanted more information on the incident.

Sadly, such cases of entirely avoidable exposure to asbestos are quite common. Since 1986, our lawyers have dedicated themselves to helping those with mesothelioma and other asbestos-related illnesses seek compensation for themselves and their families.

For over two decades, our firm has handled some of the most legally complicated and groundbreaking litigation.
