A plumber whose work entailed removing asbestos on commercial and industrial heating systems recalled that the air had been thick with asbestos dust during that procedure, according to the Eastbourne Herald on Feb. 18, 2008.
His wife said it was that exposure to the deadly carcinogen asbestos that
proved fatal.
Years later, his health seemed to suddenly decline rapidly.
According to the UK newspaper, his wife said he had originally visited a doctor
with complaints of pain in his lower back.
The Herald reports that
he subsequently underwent various tests and scans before ultimately being
diagnosed with inoperable lung
cancer in January 2007.
The man, who was from Eastbourne, died last
year on February 22.
Asbestos fibers were reportedly found in the lungs
and a pathologist said the cause of death was due to mesothelioma.
His wife told a
reporter that her husband recalled doing his apprenticeship in plumbing and
heating in London in the old buildings, and removing and installing boilers. He
said it was there that he and coworkers broke the asbestos off the boilers and,
as a result, the air was thick with asbestos dust.
Sadly, this situation
is all too familiar to the attorneys in the Weitz &
Luxenberg P.C. Asbestos Litigation unit here in the United States.
