Asbestos in Railcars
The United States Geological Survey reported that, in 2006, the U.S. used
2,000 metric tons of asbestos, 19 percent of which were used in friction
products such as vehicle brakes and clutches.
In addition to this machinery, railcars have been found to
contain the carcinogen. Laboratory samples of railcar ceiling materials have
confirmed that the adhesive tar material contained significant amounts of
asbestos. Railcar workers, it turns out, were affected by the dangers of
asbestos.
