Levels of asbestos higher than allowed by federal regulations have been found inside a new Jersey building under renovation for a new library, according to the Star-Ledger newspaper on Feb. 8, 2008.
The article says the results were from an environmental study on air quality
in the building.
Public works employees did demolition tasks inside the
building last summer, reported the Ledger, adding that the study revealed
a 3 percent asbestos rating in the joint compound used in the wallboard on the
perimeter walls of the building. The federal limit is 1 percent.
