A funeral service was held in Australia for the first of the asbestos victims to be compensated under South Australian laws that improved rights of those with the disease and their families, reported ABC News in Australia on June 4, 2008.
According to the report, hundreds of mourners attended at the service for
Melissa Haylock, 44. She had been diagnosed with mesothelioma in
2004.
Haylock was roundly lauded for her success in achieving legislative
changes for those with asbestos-related
illness.
Haylock, reportedly, was exposed to asbestos as a baby during home renovations.
Such asbestos exposure is very
common, making it imperative that people take the proper precautions when doing
renovation work to a house or apartment.
Sadly, this situation is all too
familiar to the attorneys in the Weitz & Luxenberg P.C. Asbestos Litigation unit here in the
United States.
We are a leading plaintiffs' law firm that has represented
people affected by mesothelioma for over 20
years. Men and women diagnosed with mesothelioma or lung cancer caused by
asbestos exposure may be entitled to compensation from the companies
responsible for their disease.
