Asbestos Use Tapers, But Is Still Imported
Since it was revealed in the 1970’s that asbestos is undeniably a dangerous health hazard, its use has sharply declined.
Asbestos is now mainly banned as a building material. In 1983, mining ceased in Australia.
It has not been exported since 1984, however chrysotile (white asbestos) is still being imported until the new asbestos regulations come into effect.
