A lawsuit between the families of those diagnosed with asbestos-related cancers and employers' insurers who say they are not liable to pay compensation has started in London, reported the News Guardian on June 12, 2008.
The nine-week so-called "test case hearing" is aimed at resolving a vigorous
legal debate over the point in time when insurers' liability is "triggered" in
respect to the asbestos disease mesothelioma.
The result could
profoundly impact the families of workers employed in shipyards seeking compensation.
From shipfitters, pipefitters and demolition workers, to those toiling on railroads and in construction, Weitz & Luxenberg has many clients whose needless and entirely avoidable exposure to asbestos ultimately led to them developing asbestos-related diseases.
Weitz & Luxenberg is a leading plaintiffs' law firm that has represented
people affected by mesothelioma for over 20
years. Men and women diagnosed with mesothelioma or lung cancer caused by
asbestos exposure may be entitled to compensation from the companies
responsible for their disease.
