Pipe workers: You have a right to asbestos compensation if you were harmed.
A former pipe worker died as a result of being exposed to asbestos while he worked on the site, reported the Whitehaven News on August 16, 2008.
According to the News, the death was due to pulminary fibrosis from exposure to the deadly asbestos fibers.
The man reportedly worked as a fitter’s mate from 1978 until his retirement in 1998. He then worked dismantling and stripping pipework. Those pipes may have been covered with asbestos-containing insulation.
Additionally, some older concrete pipes are made of a mixture of portland cement and asbestos fiber and highly resistant to corrosion. For this reason, they were commonly used in drainage systems, waterworks systems, and gas lines.
This, in turn, imperiled the health of workers who came in contact with them.
Many have come forward to say their work environment led to a diagnosis of mesothelioma, asbestosis or lung cancer from asbestos.
