Ongoing threat to our health: Council fined for failing to curtail asbestos risk to public
After risking the welfare of locals, a district council in the United Kingdom is now under fire after asbestos at a sports center was discovered to have been ignored for six years, according to BBC News on May 30, 2008.
The council was fined last year for failing to remove asbestos from another public
area.
An independent inquiry has concluded the failure to appropriately
manage the asbestos abatement is widespread.
The asbestos was first
discovered in a boiler room at a
local shopping district in 2001.
Sadly, this situation is all too
familiar to the attorneys in the Weitz & Luxenberg P.C. Asbestos Litigation unit here in the
United States.
