Government Gives Lawsuit Compensation to Girl Whose Autism May Have Been Caused by Childhood Vaccines
Many parents of children with autism deeply believe that vaccines may have caused their illness. One family has just won a settlement from the government after filing a lawsuit, reported the New York Times on March 8, 2008.
According to the report, a 19-month-old girl in Athens, Ga. was developing normally untill she received five shots against infectious diseases.
According to her family, she then developed a fever, her health quickly spiraled downward, and she was given a diagnosis of autism.
The case is fueling a long-held contention that thimersol, a vaccine preservative containing mercury, is behind the rising number of autism diagnoses in the United States.
Weitz & Luxenberg P.C. has been researching this area for many years, and has compiled a 105-page report on the subject, "Thimerosal and Autism: The Mercury Poisoning of American Children," by Shannon Sneed.
