BENIGN MESOTHELIOMA
With prompt treatment, the prognosis is excellent for most patients diagnosed with benign mesothelioma
Weitz & Luxenberg accepts "malignant mesothelioma" cases, but does not accept law suit cases involving "benign mesothelioma," as benign mesothelioma is not a cancer.
August 13, 2010 - Benign mesothelioma is a rare noncancerous tumor of the cell wall lining of the lung and chest cavity that accounts for less than 10 percent of all mesothelioma cases worldwide. The vast majority of mesothelioma cases, however, are classified as malignant mesothelioma.
The most important difference between benign mesothelioma and the malignant form is that benign tumors do not spread to other organs or tissues, so the life expectancy factor is good, according to the mesothelioma doctors our firm works with.
Malignant tumors, on the other hand, spread quite quickly, and are frequently fatal. Mesothelioma treatment options for the malignant form will depend on what stage the cancer has developed to.
Benign mesothelioma is easily treatable in comparison. Because 75 percent of patients with benign mesothelioma develop tumors in the lung, a surgical procedure called a "thoracotomy" is commonly performed. Following surgical treatment, most individuals enjoy a complete recovery.
Medical studies show that 90 percent of those individuals who develop a benign mesothelioma tumor will never experience a repeat occurrence following successful surgery.
However, anyone recovering from benign mesothelioma should continue with regular check-ups and chest X-rays after surgery, as there is a likelihood a more serious mesothelioma-type can develop in the future.
Obtain compensation for malignant mesothelioma
Government sources estimate that in the next decade more than 35,000 people nationwide will be diagnosed with the malignant form of mesothelioma.
This disease is most often the result of industrial workplace exposure to asbestos – and usually contracted through employers’ deliberate choice for profits over the expense of maintaining the health and safety of their workers.
Every Weitz & Luxenberg mesothelioma lawyer understands the emotional and financial complexities of asbestos disease in the family – and exactly what is required to secure maximum compensation for the injured worker’s loved ones.
If you decide to move forward with a mesothelioma claim, please know we work on a contingency basis and are paid a percentage of the final settlement. That means there are no upfront legal fees, whatsoever. We are paid based on a percentage of the compensation award we obtain for you.
