Bextra Side Effect: Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)-
Information provided by
Bextra Attorneys
Bextra has been foind to cause Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). A condition in
which the deep vein (a blood vessel returning blood to the heart, usually
located within muscles) forms a blood clot restricting blood flow.
Deep
vein thrombosis can occur anywhere in the body, but it is commonly found in the
deep veins of the pelvis, thighs, and legs.
DVT may arise from physical
injury to the vein, reduced blood flow (i.e. narrowed veins), and in states that
allow for increased blood clotting factors (i.e. hypercoagulation or
thrombophilia).
Symptoms of DVT consist of pain and swelling, but many
patients who have DVT may develop no symptoms until the clot is dislodged and
causes an embolism through blocking an artery in the lung.
Deep Vein
Thrombosis can be treated with anti-coagulant medicines such as warfarin
(Coumadin) - [a drug not indicated with the use of Vioxx].
For patients
incapable of tolerating anti-coagulant medicines treatment can be obtained
through the use of filters in the large vein leading to the heart.
Weitz & Luxenberg is no longer accepting Bextra cases.
