A study presented to the American Heart Association on November 9th, 2004,
showed in a test group of 5,930 patients within 12 different trials, patients
taking Bextra were 2.19 times more likely to suffer a stroke or heart attack
than those taking placebos.
On Friday, November 19th, 2004,in a statement made by Dr. David Graham, an FDA drug safety reviewer, Bextra was included in a list of five drugs Dr. Graham viewed as unsafe and its use discontinued.
The pain relieving drug Bextra, manufactured by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, was
pulled from the market on April 7, 2005, after the FDA determined Bextra posed
too high a risk of adverse cardiovascular events, as well as potentially fatal
skin reactions such as Stevens Johnson Syndrome.
Bextra also failed to
demonstrate an advantage over other NSAID drugs available on the market.
Weitz & Luxenberg is no longer accepting Bextra cases.
