In recent news about the BP spill, lawyer Robin Greenwald, head of the Environmental and Toxic Torts unit of our firm, was interviewed about the enormous, ever-widening effect it is having in communities along the coast.
"There are so many injured parties here," said Greenwald. "The list is almost endless. You have the traditional fishermen that we've heard a lot about. People who made their livelihood in fishing, in particular seasons, which is right now."
Beyond the people who were injured or killed in the drilling rig disaster, and the marine life struggling to survive amid the contamination from the BP oil spill, "There's so much collateral damage," said Greenwald. "There is the fishing industry, the hotel industry that is going to lose a tremendous amount of business. And then there's the restaurateurs, the small businesses that supply the tourism in this area."
Greenwald also cited people working for the area businesses, saying that people are forgetting about the secondary staff. For example, the busboys and the waitresses and the waiters of the restaurants, and the people who clean the hotel rooms. "The ripple effect here is extraordinary."
Discuss a case with a BP spill lawyer
The environmental attorneys of Weitz & Luxenberg would like to help these people recover monetary losses due to the BP Gulf oil spill. Many have opted to join our oil spill class action lawsuit.
Our complaints, filed by a consortium of lawyers against BP, Halliburton, Cameron and other parties, seek to recover damages suffered by our clients as a result of the BP oil spill. The lawsuits allege, in part, that Defendants knew of the dangers associated with deep-water drilling and failed to take appropriate measures to prevent damages to our clients and the environment in which they live and work.
