What are cancerous lungs?
Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. in both men and women. In cancerous lungs, the cells of the lungs grow in an uncontrolled manner. The major types are small-cell lung cancer and non-small-cell lung cancer. Non–small cell lung cancer is more common than small cell lung cancer. Some common symptoms of lung cancer are coughing, shortness of breath, loss of weight and fatigue. The causes of lung cancer include smoking and exposure to harmful substances such as arsenic, asbestos, radioactive dust and second-hand smoke. Treatment options for lung cancer include surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
