Workers from across England are meeting to attend a conference highlighting the dangers posed by asbestos, reported The Star newspaper in April 2008.
The conference, hosted by the Trades Union Congress, will hear from an area
coroner and a consultant respiratory physician, among other health
experts.
The event takes place in Sheffield Cathedral Conference Centre
and has been staged with the help of local law firms.
Industrial disease
specialists there contend that there is still an alarming number of people who
have been or are being exposed to
asbestos in the workplace.
An
increasing number of cases, they say, are being diagnosed in individuals who may
have less intense exposure, such as
workers in the building industry. It is believed that these now represent the
majority of new cases, according to the article.
