Carpenters risk cancer from asbestos dust in building materials
Are you a carpenter with mesothelioma or lung cancer? Our lawyers may be able to help you file a claim for asbestos compensation.
A carpenter, 74, spent 16 years ripping out and replacing asbestos sheeting in home and office renovations.
He mostly used an electric saw to cut sheeting to fit, with a wet handkerchief his only protection against the copious amount of asbestos dust generated.
A jury recently saw videotaped evidence from the carpenter, who said he was in great health and still working on jobs until this year, when a doctor told him he had inoperable lung cancer and six months to live.
His van and tools were parked out the front of his home when lawyers visited to discuss his asbestos case against several manufacturers and distributors of the cancer causing agent.
His lawyers said there was "overwhelming evidence" that the carpenter was exposed to asbestos.
Details of the settlement are confidential, although it is believed that the carpenter will receive a six-figure sum. This will hopefully help him get the very best medical care for the treatment of his cancer.
Asbestos is found in many products used in buildings, including ceiling tiles, pipe insulation, boilers and sprayed coatings.
