Celebrex Side Effects: Stroke

Recently, it has been found that celebrex may be linked to strokes. Celebrex can cause the formation of blood clots. This can lead to a stroke, when blood is blocked, specifically when trying to enter the brain.

In more detail, an ischemic stroke is the condition where oxygen is restricted to the brain through a blockage of arteries in the neck and brain.

This can be caused by several factors, those of which involve: narrowing of the arteries, gradual cholesterol deposition, blood clots (thrombosis), and injury to the blood vessels.

Two variants of ischemic stroke are thrombotic and embolic. Thrombotic strokes occur when an artery are blocked after the formation of a blood clot around the brain and is approximately 50% of all strokes.

An embolic stroke is caused when a blood clot was formed in some area of the body (not in the brain), breaks away and becomes lodged and restricts blood flow to the brain.

The most common symptom of an ischemic stroke is chest pain and discomfort.

Roughly, 3 to 4 million Americans suffer from ischemic episodes and accounts for 88% of all types of strokes.
