Some Chinese Drywall is Toxic. Have a lawyer on your side.
Thousands of homes in the U.S. may be contaminated from toxic Chinese drywall. Our lawyers have been contacted by concerned citizens wanting to know what legal recourse they have.
Many affected homes have a rotten-egg-like smell, metal is turning black, and appliances are failing.
Possible ealth concerns include respiratory system irritation, dizziness, headaches, fatigue, irritated eyes, coronary heart disease, coma, convulsions, and liver damage.
The tainted Chinese drywall was first discovered by the Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) in December 2008.
Who Produced the Toxic Chinese Drywall?
The company identified as manufacturing some of the tainted Chinese drywall is Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin, and it labels its product "Knauf-Tianjin." The parent company, Knauf Gips, is headquartered in Germany. There are four manufacturing plants in China.
Where the Chinese Drywall was distributed
Shipping records reviewed by Associated Press indicated that imports of potentially tainted Chinese building materials exceeded 500 million pounds during a four-year period of soaring home prices, peaking in 2006.
The drywall may have been used in more than 100,000 homes, according to some estimates, including houses rebuilt after 2005's Hurricane Katrina.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says most of the complaints have come from Florida, where the concerns emerged last year.
But consumers also have filed complaints in Louisiana, Virginia, Wisconsin, Ohio, Alabama, Mississippi, California, Washington, Wyoming, Arizona, Tennessee and Washington, D.C.
A lawyer can help
Homeowners have contacted our lawyers to sue builders, suppliers and manufacturers, claiming the very walls around them are emitting smelly sulfur compounds that are poisoning their families and rendering their homes uninhabitable.
Homeowners also maintain that the gases corrode metal components including copper wiring, causing air conditioners and other household systems to fail.
Builders have also sought lawyers in a fight against suppliers and manufacturers, claiming they unknowingly used the bad building materials.
