Chromium near school playground in Tannersville, NY

Tannersville - According to the Kingston Daily Freeman, residents of the Hunter-Tannersville school district will decide soon whether to approve building propositions totaling $9.96 million, with about one-third of the funding coming from New York state.
One of the propositions is to obtain funding for a new elementary school playground, which requires additional maintenance to keep levels of arsenic and chromium from becoming hazardous to students. Soil samples near the playground showed 10.4 parts per million of arsenic and 28.9 parts per million of chromium within the playground area and 5.14 parts per million of arsenic and 7.52 parts per million of chromium outside the playground. The state Department of Environmental Conservation's recommends a cleanup when levels exceed 7.5 parts per million of arsenic and 10 parts per million of chromium.
