CHRYSOTILE ASBESTOS
Chrysotile Asbestos Fact Sheet
The Environmental Information Association (EIA), with its beginnings as
the National Asbestos Council, has for some 25 years provided the environmental
industry with the information needed to remain knowledgeable, responsible and
competitive in the environmental health and safety industry.
The
Association recently collaborated with the Asbestos Disease Awareness
Organization to produce the EIA/ADAO Chrysotile Asbestos Fact Sheet in an effort
to clarify the misinformation released on the very real dangers of asbestos exposure.
Chrysotile Asbestos Fact Sheet:
- Asbestos is a regulated carcinogen;
- There are six fibrous minerals that are currently regulated as “asbestos”: chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite, tremolite, actinolite and anthophyllite;
- Chrysotile asbestos is the most abundant asbestos variety on earth;
- Chrysotile is the most common variety of asbestos found in products in the United States.
- Chrysotile asbestos has been a significant contributor to asbestos-related illness and death to the U.S. and worldwide workforce;
- There is sufficient evidence to conclude that ALL FORMS of asbestos, including chrysotile, are carcinogenic and are responsible for asbestos-related lung cancer, mesothelioma, laryngeal and ovarian cancers.
