Concerns About Concerta - Long Term Effects

Methylphenidate has been used on a long term basis since the mid-20th century, without problems. Yet clinical studies of the long-term use effects have not been undertaken. A great deal of controversy has been generated by non-expert groups, many of them basing their so-called 'research' on the negative effects of ritalin on children..

In a 2005 study, no "clinically significant" effects on growth, vital signs, tics, or laboratory tests (including urinalysis, hematology/complete blood counts, electrolytes, and liver function tests) were observed after 2 years of treatment.
