Con Ed worker dies in Brooklyn manhole explosion
Construction industry fatality in Brooklyn . . .
October 10, 2008 – A 26-year-old Consolidated Edison (Con Ed) worker splicing cable on the job died yesterday following a manhole explosion at 12:45 p.m. in Brooklyn.
His injured co-worker, 28, was treated at a nearby hospital and released.
NYC occupational injury statistics
In 2007, 81 people died from occupational injuries in New York City, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Only seven victims were self-employed. The majority (21) were wage and salary workers between the ages of 25 and 34, like yesterday's Con Ed victim.
