Fall hazards pose biggest safety problems at New York City construction sites
October 15, 2008 – Fall hazards are the biggest safety problem at construction sites in New York City.
According to preliminary statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor, 24 construction workers died in New York City in 2007. Of those, 14 died from falls.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration this year fined 46 construction sites in the city for 129 safety violations totaling $247,400. Nearly a third of the violations involved fall hazards.
