Report: Nonfatal Ladder Injuries Climbing Sharply in Construction
May 17, 2007--According to a new study in the May issue of American Journal of Preventive Medicine, the number of nonfatal ladder injuries treated in emergency rooms jumped by 50 percent between 1990 and 2005.
The study's co-author, Lara Trifiletti, Ph.D., a researcher with the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Columbus Children's Hospital in Ohio, is quoted in a press release saying, "It is a little bit alarming that the numbers are so high and that they've increased over time."
She said the findings of the report suggest that there needs to be more education about ladder safety.
The study found that three-quarters of the injured were male and that an average of 135,000 people sustain ladder injuries each year.
