Dayton, Ohio Groundwater Danger - TCE Contamination Cause for Major Concern
February 9, 2007
DaimlerChrysler owned a plant in Dayton, Ohio for a majority of the century.
It wasn't until the mid '90s that the company discovered TCE in a pipe on
Webster Street.
The auto giant made an effort to pump the groundwater
in the area, hoping to rid it of the dangerous pollutant. However, those efforts
proved largely unsuccessful when vapors from that groundwater began infiltrating local
homes.
In October 2006, Ohio's Environmental Protection Agency began
testing blocks near the plant in search of the toxin. Results showed that TCE
vapors had seeped into homes and were at high levels.
