Serious Risks of Using Decorative Contact Lenses Include Blindness

Ahead of this year's Halloween festivities, The Food & Drug Administration has just released a reminder to consumers on the hazards of using decorative contact lenses without consulting a physician.

According to the FDA, these contact lenses, sometimes called Plano or non-corrective lenses, can injure the eye and lead to corneal scarring and other eye injuries when they do not fit properly.

The FDA is advising consumers to only use the decorative lenses if they have seen an eye care professional and have obtained a proper lens fitting and instructions for use.
