According to a government study, over 33 million men and women in the United States have been fitted with a removable denture appliance, including full and partial plate dentures.

For those who have worn dentures for several decades, as well as those who have chronic fit and other problems associated with denture use, PoliGrip, Fixodent and other denture cream adhesive products have provided a solution to their denture pain and other embarrassing problems.

However, one of the ingredients in these adhesive products puts many at risk. Zinc, a trace mineral that is needed in small amounts in our daily diets, is added to denture cream to increase adhesive power in these products.

For those who use the product once each day, there is very little risk of illness. But for the thousands of men and women who need to use and re-apply the adhesive several times during the day, dangerous levels of zinc are absorbed into the body, and can have serious adverse health consequences.

Zinc Overdose Poisoning From PoliGrip
The excess zinc in the denture cream products is ingested or leached into the body. The excess zinc remains in the bloodstream, where it can cause dangerous changes in both metabolism and body chemistry.

The most significant problem caused by zinc poisoning is that the excess zinc prevents copper from being absorbed into the blood. Even though the daily requirement for copper is very slight (between 1.5-3.mg per day), this trace mineral plays a vital role in health. Without copper, the blood cannot absorb iron and several other trace minerals.

Copper deficiency will cause a severe body chemistry imbalance, which can result in neurological problems, severe anemia, extreme fatigue, memory problems, and cause balance and mobility issues.

In patients with chronic health conditions such high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and cardiac disease, zinc poisoning and copper deficiency can cause dangerous complications in the treatment of these illnesses.
