DePuy hip lawsuit
Discuss a possible DePuy hip lawsuit if your DePuy ASR model has failed.
In December 2009, DePuy Orthopaedics, a unit of Johnson & Johnson, began to withdraw the ASR® XL Acetabular Head System and DePuy ASR® Hip Resurfacing Platform. It issued a DePuy hip recall of two ASR products on August 26, 2010, sparking talk of lawsuits involving defective devices.
According to Lorie Gawreluk, a communication officer with DePuy, Inc., the DePuy hip replacement was pulled from the market, "As a result of declining demand for the ASR platform and other market factors...".
On March 6, 2010, the company sent a letter to doctors warning that this particular ASR model of DePuy hip implants, which is metal on metal, appears to have a high early failure rate in some patients.
The letter said that data shows that the risk is highest for DePuy hip patients of small stature, a group that would typically include women, and patients with weak bones.
This information came after two years of reports from patients who had to have replacement surgeries due to a DePuy hip implant.
In some cases, the DePuy ASR hip implant had failed after just a few years. The Food and Drug Administration has received over 300 complaints from people who have been implanted with the ASR DePuy hip system implant since 2008.
Many people have been implanted with the DePuy hip implant and experienced serious complications such as the need for replacement/revision surgeries.
