More than 30 years of research have shown that using Diethylstilbestrol, or DES, can result in many dangerous side effects. For example:

  • Women who use DES while pregnant have a greater chance of developing breast cancer.
  • Women with DES exposure while in the womb are at risk of developing Clear Cell Adenocarcinoma (CCA) of the vagina and cervix. There are also other serious hazards, such as infertility, risk of pregnancy complications, and reproductive track structural difficulties.
  • DES is also known to cause infertility in DES daughters.
  • Men with DES exposure while in the womb run a risk of developing non-cancerous epididymal cysts.
