A construction worker for a subcontractor involved in work at Blount Memorial Hospital was fatally injured Tuesday morning in a fall down an elevator shaft.

The workers were in the process of installing a third elevator to serve that area when the man apparently fell several floors to the bottom of the shaft, then was struck by a heavy pulley that fell after him.
