EPA Assesses Groundwater Contamination in
Peachtree, NC.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently undertook testing on the groundwater contamination around the Moog Component Group's Facility on N.C. 141 in Peachtree. Those test show pollutants may be spreading, reported the Asheville Citizen-Times in an article dated October 24, 2007.
According to the report, EPA
spokeswoman Laura Niles says the agency hasn't yet determined the extent of the
groundwater contamination but is working to do so now.
The EPA discovered
groundwater contamination in the area two decades ago. Now, however, it appears
the dangerous chemicals may have spread to Peachtree.
The EPA is
scheduled to meet with residents at the Peachtree Community Center to address
their concerns.
