Fennville Residents Affected by Wastewater Contamination May Get a Free Lawsuit Review.
If you or a loved one has been impacted by the environmental contamination of well water in the Fennville, MI area, our environmental lawyers may be able to help you by filing a lawsuit against the company responsible for the contamination.
In 2004, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) first became aware of groundwater contamination associated with wastewater sprayed in the area. The DEQ investigation began in 2005, and resulted in on-going efforts to determine the extent of the well water contamination.
That investigation determined that Birds Eye, which operates a processing facility in the area, routinely sprayed water with sediments and other ingredients (called “dregs”) from their fruit processing operation.
The wastewater leached into wells in the area, where it caused chemical reactions to occur in the well water. The oxygen levels in the water were reduced, allowing levels of arsenic, iron and manganese to rise to unsafe levels. As a result, Fennville residents who obtained their water from wells have been relying exclusively on bottled water for cooking and drinking supplied to them by Birds Eye.
